A Day at Sony Pictures Studios for a Live Taping of Jeopardy!

23157281_10215193394135094_6176057293584129736_oWhat is “an entertaining and educational DayTripper Tour to the Sony Pictures Studios in Los Angeles?”  The answer is… “a live taping of America’s #1 TV game show, Jeopardy!” Yes, all 37 DayTripper Tours passengers knew the answer to that question on a recent trip to be part of the studio audience for our favorite quiz program.  It all started when driver Tony picked us up on a cloudy and cool November morning for the drive north.  As expected, weekday traffic was heavy, but as I pointed out to everyone, this is one of the best aspects of going with DayTripper Tours!  You don’t need to worry about the traffic, or the directions, or the parking.  We take care of all of that for you, dropping you off and picking you up right at your destination!  Our first stop was L.A.’s favorite shopping and dining destination since 1934, the famous Farmers Market at 3rd and Fairfax. Some call it the best grocery store in Los Angeles because of the big selection of fresh fruits, vegetables, meat, poultry and fish, baked goods, ice cream and nuts. IMG_3690The people watching is pretty good too.  Some passengers joined me at Buca di Beppo Italian restaurant for a delicious lunch of salads, pastas, chicken and cheesecake served al fresco on the second floor balcony above the bustling activity of the Farmers Market. Still others strolled next door through The Grove shopping complex which was already being decorated for Christmas. Santa’s sleigh and reindeer could be seen over the center fountain and towering 100 foot white fir from Northern California (taller than the tree at NYC’s Rockefeller Center). Only a tree that is over 80 years old is chosen each year because it is near the end of the white fir’s grand life cycle. Soon, The Grove’s annual Christmas tree will glow with 15,000 sparkling lights and 10,000 ornaments.  “’Tis the season…” Sounds like another answer to a Jeopardy question, and soon we were driving through the big iron gates onto the grounds of the Sony Pictures Studios in Culver City.  IMG_3692You could feel the excitement building as we went through security and entered the giant doors into the sound stage that houses the Jeopardy! set. We watched the crew warm up the contestants with practice questions as we were seated and soon the familiar theme song and announcements were being made, “THIS is Jeopardy!” Alex Trebek walked on the set looking as handsome and professional as ever and the first game began. We had been cautioned not to say out loud any of the answers like we do at home when we are watching on TV.  During the commercial breaks, Alex came over to where we were sitting and answered questions from the studio audience.  He made a special welcome to the Daytrippers which pleased us all and even autographed a picture to us. We watched two tapings which will air January 25 and 26, 2018.  Now, if we can remember the answers, we can really impress our friends with how smart we are when we watch Jeopardy! In January!  Thanks, DayTripper Tours!
