Ride in first-class comfort aboard the Verde Canyon Railroad into Arizona’s “other” grand canyon, and enjoy a glass of champagne, a charcuterie tray, and panoramic views as the train winds past towering crimson cliffs, ancient Native American ruins, and through a 680-foot tunnel carved into the mountainside.

DAY 1

Across the Desert to Arizona’s Urban Heart

As the morning sun rises over Southern California, we begin our journey eastward, leaving behind coastal breezes for the golden tones of the open desert. Our route carries us through ever-changing desert landscapes toward the oasis of Palm Desert, where we'll pause for an included lunch at Applebee's Neighborhood Grill, a welcome break to relax and refresh. Back on the road, we cross the wide expanse of the Sonoran Desert, where towering saguaro cacti and distant mountain ridges paint a picture of rugged beauty. By late afternoon, we arrive in Tempe, Arizona, on the outskirts of Phoenix, where we'll check in at the Drury Inn.This evening, enjoy the hotel's signature Kickback Reception, featuring complimentary cocktails and hot food-a perfect way to unwind, connect with fellow travelers, and ease into the pace of the journey ahead.

Musical Marvels & Sedona’s Red Rock Wonders

After a hearty hot breakfast at the hotel, the day begins with an extraordinary cultural experience at Phoenix’s renowned Musical Instrument Museum. Step into a global celebration of sound as you explore a collection of over 15,000 instruments from nearly every country on Earth. This immersive museum invites you to engage with music firsthand—strum a guitar, tap a drum, or even try your hand at the otherworldly theremin in the interactive exhibits. This afternoon, we journey north through Arizona’s high desert into the heart of Sedona, where vibrant red rock formations rise dramatically against the horizon. Upon arrival, enjoy an exciting trolley tour of the area’s most iconic landmarks, including the sweeping vistas of Airport Mesa, known for its mysterious energy vortex, and the awe-inspiring Chapel of the Holy Cross, ingeniously built into the red rock cliffs. After your introduction to Sedona’s natural and spiritual beauty, we’ll check in for a two-night stay at the contemporary and eco-conscious Element Hotel, where stylish accommodations and stunning red rock views await.

Canyon Views, Rail Romance & Western Revelry

After an included breakfast at your hotel, get lost in a landscape straight out of a postcard as we tour the stunningly beautiful Oak Creek Canyon, with its babbling creek, fascinating flora and fauna, and the ever-changing colors of the fall foliage. We’ll make a stop at Oak Creek Vista, where you can take in panoramic canyon views and browse a colorful array of handcrafted Native American jewelry and souvenirs, offered by local artisans who share their culture through time-honored craft.

This afternoon, we descend into the valley to embark on one of Arizona's most scenic adventures-the Verde Canyon Railroad. Settle into your first-class car and raise a welcome glass of champagne in a toast with your fellow travelers as the train sets off on a 4-hour journey through Arizona's breathtaking "other Grand Canyon." Along the way, marvel at towering red cliffs, ancient cliff dwellings, cascading seasonal waterfalls, and a tunnel carved deep into the canyon wall. The ever-changing vistas, abundant wildlife, and vintage railcar charm promise a truly unforgettable ride.

As evening falls, the spirit of the Old West comes alive at Blazin' M Ranch, where a wagon tour, hearty cowboy-style dinner, and lively musical variety show round out a day brimming with wonder, history, and high-desert magic.

Cliffside Cultures & Historic Evenings Beneath the Stars

Following an included breakfast at your hotel, we set out on a journey that bridges the past and present with a visit to one of Arizona’s most awe-inspiring archaeological treasures—Montezuma Castle National Monument. Tucked high into the sheer limestone cliffs above Beaver Creek, this remarkably well-preserved five-story dwelling was built over 600 years ago by the resourceful Sinagua people, whose name means “without water.As you stand before the castle’s intricate network of rooms carved into the rock face, you’ll marvel at the ingenuity and engineering brilliance that allowed an ancient civilization to thrive in such an unforgiving landscape. With every step, you’ll walk deeper into the silent stories of a people whose legacy still echoes from the canyon walls. After a reflective morning surrounded by echoes of the past, we continue our drive south and westward, crossing open desert plains and picturesque valleys as we make our way to Yuma, Arizona. Upon arrival, we’ll check in at the stylish and comfortable SpringHill Suites by Marriott, where modern amenities provide a welcome contrast to the timeless terrain we’ve explored throughout the day. As the sun dips below the horizon, an unforgettable evening awaits. Step into the gardens of the historic Sanguinetti House Museum, where you’ll be treated to a narrated history dinner under the stars. Through captivating storytelling, period ambiance, and flavorful local fare, you’ll gain a deeper appreciation for Yuma’s colorful past—once a bustling river port and gateway to the American West. DAY 5

Journeys Etched in Metal or Water: The Last Chapter

After a hearty hot breakfast at the SpringHill Suites, we embark on our final day of exploration in Yuma, a town steeped in heritage and character. Our morning begins with a guided tour of the Yuma Territorial Prison, where the thick stone walls and iron gates whisper tales of Arizona's Wild West justice. Step back into the frontier era as you walk the very cells that once held outlaws and legends.

Next, stroll through the heart of historic Old Town Yuma on a guided walking tour. As we meander past adobe buildings and vintage storefronts, the stories of early settlers and riverboat captains echo through shaded alleyways and timeworn plazas.

Later in the day, you'll have the opportunity to choose your own final adventure, each offering a unique way to connect with Yuma's vibrant spirit:

Deposit and final Payment

A deposit of $150 per person is required to secure your booking, with the final balance due 45 days prior to departure.

45-Day Cancellation Deadline

  • If you purchased the optional Cancellation Protection Plan (CPP) before the cancellation deadline, your tour is fully refundable at any time (see below). If you did not purchase the CPP you may cancel your booking forty-five (45) or more days prior to the tour’s departure date to receive a refund less a $100 per person cancellation fee. Alternatively, when you cancel your booking forty-five (45) or more days prior to the departure date, we can waive the cancellation fee and transfer the full amount to another tour or a non-refundable voucher, which can be applied to any future excursion booked within one year of the original tour date. Cancellations within 45 days of departure are nonrefundable and nontransferrable for any reason if you did not purchase the optional CPP.

  • Passenger name changes, deviations, or other changes made by the passenger after the final payment deadline has passed will be assessed a $50 per person change fee plus any fees incurred by the service providers. No refunds, transfers or credits can be issued for any reason on bookings canceled after the cancellation deadline. Travel insurance is available through Travelex during the booking process.

 

Protect Your Investment with Optional Cancellation Protection Plan (CPP) - Cancel for any reason at any time and receive a full refund

  • DayTripper Tours offers an optional Cancellation Protection Plan (CPP) for this tour. The CPP allows you to cancel your reservation for any reason at least two or more hours prior to your scheduled departure time for a full refund (less the cost of the CPP). The CPP may be purchased prior to the tour’s stated cancellation deadline. To cancel your reservation please call (619) 334-3394 during business hours to notify a reservations agent, or leave a time-stamped voice message after hours at least two hours prior to your scheduled departure time, and your refund will be processed. The CPP cost for multi-day motor coach tours is $5 for each $50 increment of the full, non-discounted tour fare plus any add-on options. CPP does not cover the single supplement of the remaining traveler when a traveling companion cancels from a double occupancy reservation. The CPP is not insurance, but rather an agreed-upon cancellation fee paid in advance for the right to cancel a reservation according to the terms stated in this clause. Protect yourself even further with Travel Insurance (see below). CPP is not offered on tours that include air, rail, or cruise line transportation.
