Hindu Temple & Rubel Castle

“What a wonderful day exploring some fascinating hidden sites around L.A.! We visited two unique architectural landmarks: the new Hindu Mandir in Chino Hills and Rubel Castle in Glendale. We learned a great deal about the culture and faith of India on a guided tour of the BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir – a traditional Hindu place of worships. As an expression of their profound spirituality, Hindus created dazzling mandirs that reflects the divine faith, industry and skill of generations of people. Next we enjoyed a Teppanyaki lunch at Tokyo Wako Japanese steakhouse before continuing on to the quirky Rubel Castle, a fascinating mix of rock structures built over the course of 26 years using discarded items. We were treated to a guided tour of this curious castle and learned the interesting history behind its many odd features that include a Santa Fe Railroad caboose, a 70-foot-tall clock tower, vintage automobiles, a blacksmith area, three underground “dungeons” and a drawbridge.”
