Getty Center: Cave Temples of China

“What a fascinating day at the Getty Center museum exploring the special exhibition “Cave Temples of Dunhuang: Buddhist Art on China’s Silk Road.” This special exhibit features numerous objects excavated from the Mogoa Caves in northwest China, including paintings and manuscripts that have rarely, if ever, traveled to the U.S., as well as three spectacular full-size cave replicas. The original caves comprise some 500 decorated Buddhist temples dating from the 4th to the 14th century, and were filled with exquisite wall murals and sculptures that bear witness to the intense religious, artistic, and cultural exchanges along the Silk Road.”
