Benedict Castle & Jensen Alvarado Ranch

“We toured the inside of a medieval Spanish-style castle and then visited a treasured historic landmark on our recent tours of Benedict Castle and Jensen Alvarado Ranch. Built in 1931, Benedict Castle was designed by noted architect Henry Jeckel for Charles Benedict, an affluent New Yorker whose European travels inspired him to build his own castle here in the Inland Empire. Patterned after the Alhambra Castle in Spain, it merges the architecture of the Spanish-Moorish and Mission Revival periods and has been used as a set location for several movies including the Hunchback of Notre Dame and Bride of Frankenstein. Following the tour, we enjoyed a catered lunch inside the beautiful castle and then motored to nearby Jensen Alvarado Ranch, which shows life as it was lived in the 1880s. Here, docents offered hands-on demonstrations of tortilla and butter making, adobe brick making, ice cream cranking, weaving, and farming techniques from the 19th century.”
