DAY 1
Take advantage of our optional home pickup and air package (or arrive at Las Vegas airport independently) and board our motor coach for a journey into Arizona's colorful canyon country, enjoying an included boxed lunch along the way. At Lake Powell, trade the highway for the water as we embark on a scenic cruise through Wahweap Bay. Sandstone formations rise above the blue water while onboard narration introduces the landscape and the story of Glen Canyon Dam. Following our cruise, settle into Lake Powell Resort, our home for three nights. An included welcome dinner brings a special opportunity to meet Navajo special guest Mae Peshlakai, whose personal stories offer a meaningful introduction to the people and traditions of the Navajo Nation.
L, DDAY 2
Today we venture into Monument Valley, where towering sandstone buttes and sweeping desert panoramas create one of the Southwest's most recognizable landscapes. Traveling by Jeep with Simpson's Trailhandler Tours, we'll gain a closer look at this remarkable country through the eyes of a Navajo guide. Discover how the land connects with the history, culture and traditions of the Diné, or Navajo people. An included taco lunch savored within the valley adds a flavorful touch to our adventure. Our day also includes an unexpected discovery in Kayenta: a Navajo code talkers exhibit tucked inside a Burger King. Created by the son of a code talker, this heartfelt tribute honors the men whose language helped protect military communications during World War II. Back in Page, gather for an included dinner at Big John's Texas BBQ, a former gas station-turned-casual barbecue favorite, before returning to the resort.
B, L, DDAY 3
Step into a world of flowing sandstone at Upper Antelope Canyon, where water has sculpted narrow passageways into extraordinary curves and ripples. With a Navajo guide leading the way, discover changing patterns of light and shadow that bring the canyon's warm colors to life. This excursion requires walking through sand and negotiating stairs and hills; guests who prefer an alternative will visit the Carl Hayden Visitor Center overlooking Glen Canyon Dam. Following an included lunch at Fiesta Mexicana, embark on an optional walk to Horseshoe Bend, where the Colorado River wraps around a massive sandstone formation far below the overlook. The walk is approximately 1½ miles round trip, or you may return to the resort to relax. Tonight, dine with fellow travelers at the Red Heritage Native American Dinner Show. Colorful dancing, hoop dance, flute music, and live drumming offer an engaging celebration of Native American artistry and living traditions.
B, L, DDAY 4
Leaving Lake Powell behind, travel toward Flagstaff and explore the stories behind the scenery during a docent-led visit to the Museum of Northern Arizona. Uncover the Colorado Plateau's fascinating connections between land and people through exhibits featuring Indigenous cultures, regional art, and the forces that shaped this remarkable landscape. In historic downtown Flagstaff, enjoy time to browse galleries and distinctive shops and have lunch on your own. More discoveries await along the scenic loop through Sunset Crater Volcano and Wupatki National Monuments, where ponderosa pine forests give way to volcanic terrain, open grasslands, and far-reaching Painted Desert views. We'll settle into Little America Hotel before gathering for our included farewell dinner at Black Bart's Steakhouse. Here, the singing waitstaff adds a spirited musical revue to an evening of good food and shared travel memories.
B, DDAY 5
Our final day brings us to Sedona, where magnificent red rock formations provide a memorable backdrop for one more adventure. Climb aboard the Sedona Trolley for a narrated introduction to West Sedona, with views of Thunder Mountain and Chimney Rock and a photo stop in the scenic Fay Canyon area. Sit back, take in the scenery, and learn some of the stories behind this captivating destination. We'll also visit Tlaquepaque Arts & Shopping Village, a welcoming collection of galleries, specialty shops, and restaurants shaded by sycamore trees. Wander its inviting courtyards, discover a piece of Southwest art or a keepsake, and enjoy lunch on your own before we continue to Phoenix for our flights home, carrying memories of canyon exploration and the people who helped bring this extraordinary region to life.
