Echoes of the Ancient World at the Getty Villa

Step back into the ancient world with a visit to Getty Villa, the only museum in the United States devoted exclusively to the art and cultures of the ancient Mediterranean. Inspired by a luxurious Roman country house buried during the eruption of Mount Vesuvius, the Villa was commissioned by J. Paul Getty in the 1970s and remains one of Southern California’s most remarkable cultural destinations.

Explore tranquil gardens, classical architecture, and galleries showcasing more than 1,200 antiquities spanning nearly 4,000 years of history. Discover Stone Age artifacts, Roman sculptures, Hellenistic jewelry, Etruscan works of art, and vivid first-century frescoes from the buried city of Pompeii, each offering insight into the lives and traditions of ancient civilizations.

During your visit, you’ll also have the opportunity to experience the special exhibition, The Egyptian Book of the Dead, before it closes on November 30. This compelling exhibition explores the ancient Egyptian beliefs surrounding the afterlife through rare manuscripts, intricate illustrations, and funerary objects that reveal how the “Book of the Dead” guided souls on their journey to eternity.

Take time to stroll the museum at your own pace and stop at the on-site café for Mediterranean-inspired cuisine with lunch on your own.

• Advance reservations for guided tours are not available. You must sign up at the Tour Desk on the day of the tour.

How to Make a Reservation

14-Day Cancellation Deadline

• If you purchased the optional Cancellation Protection Plan (CPP) prior to the deadline, you can cancel your booking for any reason up until 1 hour prior to tour departure and you'll receive a full refund of the tour fare, less the cost of the CPP.

• If you declined the CPP, you may cancel your reservation fourteen (14) or more days prior to the departure date to receive a refund less a $15 per person cancellation fee. Alternatively, when you cancel your booking fourteen (14) or more days prior to the departure date, you can avoid the cancellation fee by transferring the funds to another tour or a non-refundable voucher, which can be applied to any future excursion booked within one year of the original tour date. Bookings canceled within 14 days of the departure date are nonrefundable and nontransferable for any reason. Name changes on daytrips are permitted at no additional cost if they do not require pre-clearance, such as with tours visiting government facilities.
