Canteen Remembered: Tribute to the Hollywood Canteen

Tour Fare: $125

Travel with us to the Huntington Beach Central Library Theater for a nostalgic tribute to the variety acts of the 1940s. The Hollywood Canteen (1944) was the West Coast’s answer to Broadway’s Stage Door Canteen of 1943 and is remembered as the place where “the Greatest Generation danced with the most beautiful girls in the world.” Originally a nightclub for off-duty servicemen, the Hollywood Canteen was founded by a few heavy-hitters of the entertainment industry, including Bette Davis. It quickly grew into a star-studded, patriotic extravaganza during the war years and often featured big stars who entertained the troops, such as Clark Gable, James Stewart, William Wyler, and Frank Capra – to name a few. Prior to the show you’ll enjoy an all-inclusive lunch at a local restaurant.
